Rep. Kay Hatcher Calls Gov. Quinn's Priorities Misplaced

Hatcher, a Yorkville Republican, reacts to Quinn's state of the state address.

Rep. Kay Hatcher of Yorkville said Gov. Pat Quinn's Feb. 6 State of the State speech showed misplaced priorities.

Hatcher, , said the governor failed to address the state's most-serious problems of high unemployment, financial insolvency and pension reform.

Instead, Hatcher said the governor focused on social issues, such as gun control, legalization of gay marriage and raising the state's minimum wage to $10 an hour.

“With billions in unpaid bills, an unprecedented one billion dollar pension payment looming and families throughout the state looking for work, what we needed to hear today was the governor’s vision for stabilizing our economy and creating opportunity. What we heard instead was his wish list on a variety of social issues,” Hatcher said said in a press release.

Hatcher said the governor sounded as if he was giving a campaign speech that offered "a little something for everyone" rather than laying out plans for the state's long-term health.

“House Republicans have put forward a variety of proposals to promote jobs and economic growth. I hope that in the coming months the governor will choose to work with us on creating economic stability for our families first,” Hatcher said.
