Purchase of New Coroner Vehicle Delayed

County fails to follow procedure before purchasing new SUV.

A procedural error prevented Kendall County officials from purchasing a new vehicle for the Kendall County Coroner's office, the Aurora Beacon News reported.

The vehicle in question, a sport utility vehicle equipped with an additional $3,000 - $4,000 in new equipment, would cost the county a base price of approximately $37,000. However, because the cost was above $30,000 the county needed to solicit bids for the vehicle -- something they failed to do. The motion was tabled until requests for proposals can be sent out, the Aurora Beacon News said.

The coroner currently uses a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban with 124,000 miles. Coroner Ken Toftoy reported the vehicle has been having mechanical issues, including a steering problem.

My comment is not to you Concerned. It's to the others.

Jake, Where did I imply that the voters were stupid, or incoherent? Ken told the voters how he spent his money, IN BIG HEADLINES. He said to run someone against him, if they didn't like the way he spent the money, IN BIG HEADLINES. A candidate ran against Toftoy, and made Toftoy's spending the central issue, IN BIG HEADLINES. Toftoy beat Dabney. Toftoy has earned the right to spend as much of the County taxpayer dollars as he can get away with. The people have spoken, and they were not stupid; they were very well informed. I was agreeing with you, wholeheartedly. I've heard of sore winners, but you take the cake. What part of yes do you not understand?

Youhanaie, You imply to many things in your words. You suggest the Mr. Toftoy is spending money like it's going out of style and the voters did not care in BIG HEADLINES. The fact is that the spending was in line with everything that was allowed and honest. It's not a sore winner issue, it's a truth be told issue that seems to slip on by in your typing and comments.

Again, Jake, I do not know where you are getting any implications. Are you just toying with me? Ken, has earned the right to spend as much of the County taxpayer funds as he can get away with, not one penny more. That means he can budget as much money as he wants to, with board approval. He then gets to spend every dollar in the budget, and not pne penny more, without board approval. First you say that I called (or implied) the voters stupid, or incoherent. After clearly stating that I never stated, or implied this, you now say that I am calling them indifferent (that's not caring, if didn't know the meaning of indifferent). I am not calling the voters anything but clearly informed, and having made an informed decision, they thought that Mr. Toftoy's spending was not an issue, and chose to re-elect him. The people have spoken, and to the victor, the spoils! The election is over, and I could care less how many trips the Coroner, and his assistants attend; whether or not they charge for room service, or how thick is the steak that Mr. Toftoy is charging the taxpayers. If what the he or the staff charges for out of town ventures, what would otherwise be no more than the amount due (if properly filed paperwork is submitted), who cares?

Gosh I wonder why the use of your school tax dollars are not criticized like Mr. Toftoys, that is an even bigger budget, wow you may want to look at that budget to see how wasteful they are, oh and how about the Library asking the City for money because they are broke, have no money coming in because very few use a multi million dollar library (hmmm you can find most all in the internet). oh and by the way guess what else may be coming your way, they are going to start asking owners if they want a park dist. ummm yeah that is another taxing body, yep that means more taxes.
