Purchase of New Coroner Vehicle Delayed

County fails to follow procedure before purchasing new SUV.

A procedural error prevented Kendall County officials from purchasing a new vehicle for the Kendall County Coroner's office, the Aurora Beacon News reported.

The vehicle in question, a sport utility vehicle equipped with an additional $3,000 - $4,000 in new equipment, would cost the county a base price of approximately $37,000. However, because the cost was above $30,000 the county needed to solicit bids for the vehicle -- something they failed to do. The motion was tabled until requests for proposals can be sent out, the Aurora Beacon News said.

The coroner currently uses a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban with 124,000 miles. Coroner Ken Toftoy reported the vehicle has been having mechanical issues, including a steering problem.

my first question would be, why are we purchasing a new vehicle?
Jen February 22, 2013 at 12:54 AM
I can't stand this guy, he's a hand over fist thief. The only reason he was re elected was because of the "Good 'Ol Boys Club". He lets his secretary Ms. Purcell steal tax layer dollars by taking 20 weeks of paid leave instead of the six she was allowed.......For "part time"'work. They thought no one was looking.........Get these people out of the system. They are a huge part of the corrupt Kendall County huge tax bill. 12th highest taxed county in the entire COUNTRY!!!! For what. Lying, cheating pick pocketing thieves. They need to be investigated and arrested. Pages and pages of discrepancies. Stays at the Marriott for two, steak dinners and barrels of alchohol for many with receipts marked "Office Supplies". Get out and stay out Toftoy you're a thief. I'd also like to know what good Ol Boy is repairing the original vehicle. I showed that article to my mechanic, he said the fees were embellished beyond belief! Not surprising !!!
MikeK February 22, 2013 at 07:14 AM
I guess you never read any other news sources that would tell you the reason.
MikeK February 22, 2013 at 07:19 AM
Wow Jen! Still a little upset from the election? Take a pill for those issues because I imagine that nothing this man does, even good works, would please you. And who is or are the Good Ol Boys? Any relation to the Boogie Man? Kendall must have lots of Boogie Men or Good Ol Boys in Kendall. Better get ready for them! Their coming to get you.. :)
Concerned long time resident February 22, 2013 at 01:35 PM
Ken: It was a question, yes I do read, but do you believe everything you read!, was looking for some facts on why a new vehicle. I voted for the man,so no need to be so rude, you really need to learn how to talk to people you seem to have real chip on your shoulder. try having a nice response once in a while. And by the way, I am with Jen on the Good Ole Boys, they are here, where have you been.
Todd Milliron February 22, 2013 at 01:49 PM
Mike K, could just be Kendall Deputy Coroner, Mike Klimek, I may be wrong, but the first name and last name initial fits for the screen name chosen.
Jen February 22, 2013 at 03:29 PM
I'm thinking Mike was person # two at the Marriott. Hahahahahahahahaha!
Jake Delrose February 22, 2013 at 10:05 PM
Milliron, campaign director for Dabney, Hi again. I told you, I would be watching you and Steve. Well here we go again on the rumors and hatred for a person that others seem to be jealous of and why? Here we have person that has tried to get into office or back others in candidacy and have lost miserably..and continues to try and be a thorn in another persons side for no reason. Jen, Welcome to the club of haters and I'm sure that you have been around for longer than that. I still like the question presented to you, "And who is or are the Good Ol Boys? Any relation to the Boogie Man? Kendall must have lots of Boogie Men or Good Ol Boys in Kendall. Better get ready for them! Their coming to get you.. :)" I imagine you have no answer. I'll clump you with all the other...persons for lack or a better word or out of respect for this forum and Patch.
MikeK February 22, 2013 at 10:07 PM
Sorry Mr. Milliron for ruining your theory but no.
MikeK February 22, 2013 at 10:14 PM
Concerned, Who is Ken? Do you think I am Mr. Toftoy? That's a good one Why are you afraid to share what was presented to the board on the Coroner's issue. I was there and so was Mr. Milliron. Mr. Milliron please ditch the whole wearing a suit with beat up white gym shoes to the county board meetings. It looks demeaning to the county for you looking this way and showing up at formal county functions. Just a suggestion
Stephen Youhanaie February 22, 2013 at 11:03 PM
I'm with Jake on this. Ken Toftoy was re-elected. The voters clearly knew about how he ran his office. No doubt about it. Mr. Toftoy has the right to spend as much Kendall County taxpayer dollars as he can get away with. After all, he told the voters, if you don't like what I'm doing, find someone to run against me. Well, Mr. Toftoy had notable opposition, and defeated the opponent. So Ken, rock on! You have the right to spend all that you think you can get away with. The people have spoken!
Concerned long time resident February 23, 2013 at 01:10 AM
wow !just asked a question and got alot of personal hatred, get over it , move on or move out, you are all a sore looser. do you really think Dabney would have done something better, the man could not even make his house payment .
MikeK February 23, 2013 at 01:57 AM
Sorry for the rudeness Concerned. The information at the board meetings and what other news sources have stated: The vehicle has over 124,000 miles on it Repairs are getting to the point that it is costing more than what the car is in value The rear wheel driven suburban has issues getting to areas that would require off road capabilities due to the rural area we live in. I can understand all of these issues, as a taxpayer, especially when we cover all the other emergency response personnel and that includes the Coroner's office. What are we supposed to do? Short one office and fully supply the other? No way because there is a purpose for them all.
Concerned long time resident February 23, 2013 at 02:09 AM
Well at least it your answer was not rude this time and I would hope if u do work for the coroners office that u would answer people with a little more courtesy to tax payers like myself i appreciate your response but a brand new vehicle in this economy not a good move in my eyes people r keeping a close eye on their money u r spending
Todd Milliron February 23, 2013 at 03:37 AM
Mike, I am sorry but Black Wing Tips and fresh snow on the ground just do not go together, I chose the tennis shoes that day because I do not have to shine them and I was saving those wing tips for other business that day. I am glad to see you noticed those “beat up” shoes, which have been used to talk with Kendall residents on their doorsteps during many long walks this past year. Just one of many pairs that have been "beat up" over my years of being an active and engaged citizen. I guess me being present and watching our local government officials is a concern to you as well as what I choose wear. I must confess you got me, I am not a slave to fashion. See you at the next county board meeting.
MikeK February 23, 2013 at 06:12 AM
That's a nice feel good story about your shoes, Mr Milliron. Fighting the good fight and putting your feet to the ground because no one else does it either. No, they just take the time out of their day to change them or carry another pair of shoes with them and look presentable, not like a person that lost their marbles. Since I have witnessed and seen your actions, I cannot wonder how any one has taken you seriously.
Stephen Youhanaie February 24, 2013 at 02:08 PM
So, you feel better about yourself, and your stance on this issue by making a crass comment about Dabney? The people have spoken, an Mr. Dabney has gone on, as you suggested. You could take your own advice. One would think that you could make a more thoughtful, constructive statement.
Jake Delrose February 24, 2013 at 03:46 PM
The truth of the matter is that a vehicle is coming to an end of it's service time for the county. Vehicle purchases by the county is not something new but for some offices, it has been rare, such is the case at the Coroner's office. If any of you have been involved in emergency services or a job that requires the vehicle to be in good condition, you would understand the need. As from what I take from some of the people that criticize this purchase, they either know little on the need for a vehicle for this type of work or (my bet) they despise this guy whatever he does, even good work. I would have to give good advise at this point about someone that you cannot see eye to eye with, they can do good things that are necessary or needed. When they do, don't criticize. If you cannot, don't say anything. Be mature. I wonder if those people can show respect, just a little.
Jake Delrose February 24, 2013 at 08:20 PM
Youhanaie, It was about an election that people were informed on and understood that the guy who is in office and that continues to be there, didn't do anything wrong. The efforts of those has been wasted and they continue to berate a person for doing work and providing a service. A darn good one at that too. So the voters were not incoherent or stupid in this matter as you make it seem. Tax dollars are still spent wisely despite certain people that remain sour grapes in the bunch. I've yet to see how the majority of tax money that is coming from our real estate taxes is directly effected by this office. I see the issue more with the school districts as the issue not the Coroner's office, not the Sheriff's office, not the Circuit Clerks office, not the State's Attorney's office, ect. So far I have seen the majority of people who cast votes in the school board elections, as the uninformed. Because who is representing the taxpayers on any other of the boards in the area?
Concerned long time resident February 24, 2013 at 10:36 PM
Jake as usual u r wrong again if u would have read my other posts u would have seen that I did vote for him,I also know the need for a vehicle, my qusetion is why new in this horrible economy it may show the voters who were against him that he was not like the other Kendall county officials who spend our tax $ foolishly if people would READthe question
Jake Delrose February 24, 2013 at 10:48 PM
My comment is not to you Concerned. It's to the others.
Stephen Youhanaie February 25, 2013 at 01:02 AM
Jake, Where did I imply that the voters were stupid, or incoherent? Ken told the voters how he spent his money, IN BIG HEADLINES. He said to run someone against him, if they didn't like the way he spent the money, IN BIG HEADLINES. A candidate ran against Toftoy, and made Toftoy's spending the central issue, IN BIG HEADLINES. Toftoy beat Dabney. Toftoy has earned the right to spend as much of the County taxpayer dollars as he can get away with. The people have spoken, and they were not stupid; they were very well informed. I was agreeing with you, wholeheartedly. I've heard of sore winners, but you take the cake. What part of yes do you not understand?
Jake Delrose February 25, 2013 at 03:44 AM
Youhanaie, You imply to many things in your words. You suggest the Mr. Toftoy is spending money like it's going out of style and the voters did not care in BIG HEADLINES. The fact is that the spending was in line with everything that was allowed and honest. It's not a sore winner issue, it's a truth be told issue that seems to slip on by in your typing and comments.
Stephen Youhanaie February 25, 2013 at 08:20 PM
Again, Jake, I do not know where you are getting any implications. Are you just toying with me? Ken, has earned the right to spend as much of the County taxpayer funds as he can get away with, not one penny more. That means he can budget as much money as he wants to, with board approval. He then gets to spend every dollar in the budget, and not pne penny more, without board approval. First you say that I called (or implied) the voters stupid, or incoherent. After clearly stating that I never stated, or implied this, you now say that I am calling them indifferent (that's not caring, if didn't know the meaning of indifferent). I am not calling the voters anything but clearly informed, and having made an informed decision, they thought that Mr. Toftoy's spending was not an issue, and chose to re-elect him. The people have spoken, and to the victor, the spoils! The election is over, and I could care less how many trips the Coroner, and his assistants attend; whether or not they charge for room service, or how thick is the steak that Mr. Toftoy is charging the taxpayers. If what the he or the staff charges for out of town ventures, what would otherwise be no more than the amount due (if properly filed paperwork is submitted), who cares?
Concerned long time resident February 26, 2013 at 01:09 AM
Gosh I wonder why the use of your school tax dollars are not criticized like Mr. Toftoys, that is an even bigger budget, wow you may want to look at that budget to see how wasteful they are, oh and how about the Library asking the City for money because they are broke, have no money coming in because very few use a multi million dollar library (hmmm you can find most all in the internet). oh and by the way guess what else may be coming your way, they are going to start asking owners if they want a park dist. ummm yeah that is another taxing body, yep that means more taxes.
