Munns Off Republican Primary Ballot

The Ward 3 Yorkville alderman had been seeking a spot on the Kendall County Board for District 1.

Republicans in Kendall County Board District 1 won’t have the option of nominating Marty Munns for that seat in March.

Munns, a Yorkville alderman, was taken off the primary ballot after a hearing Monday morning determined that he submitted 60 signatures on his nominating petition, which is fewer than the 65 signatures required for that seat. That leaves ; the five selected in the primary will run in the November election.

, comprised of County Clerk Debbie Gillette, Circuit Clerk Rebecca Morganegg and State’s Attorney Eric Weis, unanimously voted to sustain Yorkville resident William Sklodowski’s objection.

“There are 60 signatures, and there are supposed to be 65,” Weis said. “To me, it’s pretty clear-cut.”

The number of signatures required is based on the number of Republican votes cast in the 2010 election, Gillette said. The candidate also is required to submit the petition bound at the top, partially so pages don’t get lost.

“All sheets that would have been turned in would have been bound, so all sheets would have been accounted for,” Gillette said.

Munns did not attend the hearing but later acknowledged that he had mixed up the number of signatures he obtained.

“It was my fault,” Munns said. “There was nothing I could really say (at the hearing). I had to go to work this morning.”
