Filing Period Set for 2013 Aldermanic Election

Filing runs Dec. 17-26.

Candidate filing begins Dec. 17 when the city will collect nominating petitions for alderman positions in Wards 1 -4.

The Yorkville City Council comprises eight aldermen from four wards within the city.

In 2011 there were a total of 2,750 votes cast in the aldermanic elections, with an average of 688 per ward.

According to city documents the number of signatures required for the aldermanic petitions is “no less than 35 and no more than 85.” Thirty-five signatures is 5 percent of the average votes per ward in 2011, a requirement set by Illinois election law.

Those interested can drop off petitions at city hall from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Dec. 17-21. Candidates can also file Dec. 26 from 8 a.m. - 5p.m.

Initially candidates could file on Dec. 24, but the extension now allows for the city office to be closed on Christmas Eve.

The municipal election is set for April 9.
