City Updates Progress on Route 47 Project

Construction is set to begin the last week of April.

Yorkville City Administrator Bart Olson released the following update on the Route 47 widening project Wednesday:

Construction is expected to begin the week of April 29th. Work will begin on the south side of the Fox River, with traffic staging being first priority.

After traffic staging, we expect the concrete retaining wall and hillside near the courthouse to be removed.  The contractor will be working with the railroad company to install temporary railroad signals the first three weeks.

Once the railroad crossing signal and traffic staging is complete, underground work will begin in earnest.  That timeframe is expected to be the 3rd or 4th week in May.

Underground work will begin with storm sewer improvements near the downtown.  Once that work begins, left turning movements will be restricted to streets with designated turn lanes, and downtown parking will be eliminated in the downtown along Route 47.

The restrictions on turning movements will be in place for the duration of the project.  The elimination of downtown parking will be permanent, but we expect the City's Old Jail parking lot to be constructed by the end of the calendar year.

For the entire construction season, the majority of work will consist of storm sewer installation, and water and sewer main crossings, and will be concentrated on the south side of the river.

We do expect that at the end of the construction season that the contractor will be begin some storm sewer installation on the north side of the Fox River, with details to be determined close to that time.

All of the above is contingent upon normal progress by the contractor, and the remaining AT&T utility relocations.
