Yorkville Police Save Suicidal Man’s Life Near Palmer Dam

Man jumped into Fox River and Yorkville Police pulled him to safety.

Yorkville Police officers saved a man’s life Friday when he made a suicide jump from near Palmer Dam.

The man, who Deputy Police Chief Larry Hilt described in his mid-30s, attempted to commit suicide by jumping off the bridge near the Palmer Dam at about 10:30 a.m. May 3.

Hilt said the police received a call from a witness about the man. Once police arrived the man jumped, said Hilt.

“Our officers threw ropes off the south bank to him,” said Hilt.

The man grabbed onto the ropes and was pulled to shore by the police.

“Our officers saved him," Hilt said.

Hilt said the man was able to walk under his own power, but was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. 

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office also assisted in the incident.
