Yorkville Man Accused of Stealing Jewelry from House

Jason E. Gilich, 19, charged with felony residential burglary in connection with March 30 incident.

A 19-year-old Yorkville man accused of breaking into a local home and stealing jewelry posted $7,500 bail Tuesday.

Jason E. Gilich, 19, of the 400 block of McHugh Road, Yorkville, was charged with residential burglary, a felony typically punishable by up to 15 years in prison, according to a news release from the .

Sheriff’s deputies discovered someone had broken into a home in the 0-100 block of Winding Creek Road through a basement window. A burglar alarm gone off about 11:30 p.m. March 30, but the offender was gone when deputies arrived.

Winding Creek Road is located off Route 71 east of Yorkville.

When the residents returned, they discovered jewelry was missing, according to the news release. A family friend provided tips that led to Gilich, the news release said.

“Detectives met with the offender who confessed to burglarizing the residence and taking some of the jewelry to a store where they melted down the gold for cash,” the news release states. “Detectives located some of the jewelry in the possession of the offender.”

Gilich was arrested at his home about 10 p.m. Monday.
