Yorkville Deputy Police Chief Dave Delaney Arrested in Connection with Alleged Prescription Drug Theft

Deputy Police Chief Dave Delaney, who has served on the Yorkville Police Department since 1999, has been placed on paid administrative leave, according to a news release.

Yorkville Deputy Police Chief Dave Delaney was arrested Friday in connection with stealing prescription drugs from the department's medication disposal program, Chief Richard Hart said in a news release.

Criminal charges alleging that Delaney stole narcotics from the ’s Unwanted Medication Program are pending, according to the news release.

Hart declined to release many details Friday evening about the case in light of the criminal investigation.

Illinois State Police arrested Delaney on Friday and took him to Kendall County jail, Hart said.

“While on administrative leave, Delaney is not permitted to act in an official capacity or identify himself as a Yorkville police officer or by his current rank of deputy chief of police,” the news release states.

Yorkville police also cut off their medication disposal program Friday afternoon. Instead, they suggested residents follow certain precautions when disposing of unused prescription medications in the trash, which is better than dumping them down the drain.

They suggested people place a little water into solid medication and solidify liquid medication with kitty litter, sawdust or flour. Such measures can prevent children or pets from accidentally taking those medications.
