Tips for a Safe Halloween

Yorkville police offer advice for a safe holiday.

Yorkville residents should prepare for a plethora of ghosts, goblins, zombies, princesses, angry birds and Marvel heroes as Halloween descends on Kendall County.

Trick-or-treating will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from the city.

The Yorkville Police Department offers a number of safety tips for an enjoyable Halloween:

  • Any costume weaponry should be soft and flexible, and easily distinguishable from the real thing
  • Avoid tick-or-treating alone
  • Use reflective tape on costumes and bags
  • Use a flashlight after the sun goes down
  • Use sidewalks whenever possible
  • Eat only factory-wrapped treats
  • Avoid eating homemade treats prepared by strangers
