Update: Plattville Man Apparently Shot Himself

Kendall Country sheriff's police do not suspect foul play, but continue to investigate Troy G. DeLange's death.

Updated: Friday at 5:40 p.m.

A 41-year-old Yorkville area man died this week after receiving an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said Friday morning.

Sheriff’s police also recovered a gun from 41-year-old Troy G. DeLange’s home on Pletcher Drive off Plattville Road in unincorporated Kendall County, according to a news release issued Friday. Police said they do not believe foul play was involved.

A family member found DeLange unresponsive about 12:35 p.m. Tuesday, and Lifestar Chicago medical service flew the 41-year-old man to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff’s police are continuing to investigate and conduct interviews while waiting for further results from the DuPage County Coroner’s Office, which conducted an autopsy Wednesday, Detective Sgt. Joe Jasnosz said Friday morning.

“At this point in time, we don’t feel we have a homicide, so we’re investigating the other potential causes of death,” Jasnosz said.

Jasnosz reiterated that police have no information suggesting any danger to neighbors or the general public.

Police said this week that they expect the coroner’s office will hold an inquest in a few weeks after tests results associated with the autopsy are available.

Jasnosz said police likely would release more information about their investigation as they substantiated various facts. He declined to discuss further specifics about the gun that was recovered, such as if it belonged to DeLange.

“We don’t like to speak unless we know we can back it up with facts,” Jasnosz said.

Anyone with information that may help the investigation should call police at 630-553-7500.
