Sheriff’s Office Commander Graduates from Police Executive Development Program

Commander Phil Smith, a 23 year department veteran, completed the 200 hour executive development program.

The following is a release issued by the Kendall County Sheriff's Office:

On May 16, 2013, Kendall County Sheriff’s Office Police Operations Commander Phil Smith graduated from the acclaimed Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Executive Institute executive development program Police Executive Role in the 21st Century (PER21C).

Police Executive Role in the 21st Century
is a comprehensive and challenging program designed to equip police managers and executives with the professional development necessary for successful management and leadership.

The 200 hour executive development program meets the needs of senior law enforcement managers and executives for state-of-the-art professional development in law enforcement administration. 

Program participants receive instruction on modern police management systems and practices, strategic approaches to patrol and investigations, human resource issues, organizational communication and executive responsibilities.

Commander Phil Smith is a 23 year veteran of the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Aurora University, a Master’s Degree in Justice Administration from Western Illinois University, is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and both Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety Executive Management Program and School of Police Staff and Command.

Kendall County Sheriff Richard Randall says he strongly believes in investing in the professional development of all his employees, and that the Sheriff’s Office provides training and educational opportunities so their employees can enhance their knowledge, accelerate their careers and provide the best service possible to the citizens of Kendall County. 

“I believe ongoing training and professional development not only enhances the skills of our employees and provides personal job satisfaction, but also creates a culture of learning and organizational improvement within the Sheriff’s Office.  Commander Smith is an excellent example of that philosophy” Randall said.
