Sheriff Identifies Man Who Committed Suicide in Courthouse Parking Lot

Police identify 52-year-old John Marcus Lundberg of Yorkville as the victim of a self-inflicted gunshot.

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office identified the man who publicly committed suicide at the Kendall County Courthouse last week as 52-year-old John Marcus Lundberg of Yorkville.

A motive for the public display though has yet to be determined, said Deputy Craig French, spokesman for the Sheriff's office.

"That's something that we're still looking into," he said Monday afternoon.

Video surveillance from the Kendall County Courthouse showed Lundberg putting a shotgun to his head and firing a single shot Friday afternoon at approximately 1:46 p.m.

Lundberg, who was by himself at the time, parked his car on the far west side of the parking lot, according to police.

"At this point, we do not have any record that he had any criminal or civil court dates today at the courthouse,” French said Friday. “He never went into the courthouse."

There is never a reason to take your own life. But that is what happens when a person can't fight anymore, when they just give up and call it quits. And you know what? People are going to the courthouse everyday and losing everything. Well what they consider to be everything! There is over 400 Foreclosures going on per day at that very courthouse. The same banks that we as taxpayers bailed out are kicking people out of their homes at a record pace.
Here is an example of what I mean you buy a home 10 years ago for $250K your mortgage payment is $1500.00 a month plus your taxes are $7K a year which breaks down to another $583.00 a month, and "don't forget insurance" and all your other bills e.g.; Lights, gas the high water bill in Kendall etc. Now that means you are forking over $2k a month, and that's fine! Because you have a good job. But fast forward to the here and now to whereas because the banks over Leveraged and "spent money they didn't have" they put the economy in a tail spin. Your $250K home is only worth $125K but they still want you to make payments based off the $250K price tag. And guess what else you get laid off because the economy is bad, and guess what? Unemployment is only $1K a month and you can't keep up with the payments. So the bank now foreclose on you, in some cases the same bank that caused all this mess and got bailed out/ helped out by you the "taxpayer" is now taking your home. IT IS NOT RIGHT! & VERY SAD. Thanks for listening

I have to agree with your theory. Too many people have lost everything. Have friends still fighting and even thou Pres. Obama has set housing programs to help those in need, the banks do not want to cooperate and make things even more difficult! And Congress is just loving all this tragedy! We the taxpayers bailed them out, but they are not satisfied, they want more blood!

Sounds pretty one-sided.

very well said!!!

It's all very sad. Here is a think outside the box approach... All the money banks spend in one year marketing to retain us as customers should be used to offset the houses underwater. Offering forgiveness is better than dealing with a homeless family.
oldschool January 15, 2013 at 02:56 am
Agree, or how about this...we spend 2 billion a week in Afghanistan. Maybe we should invest that money back at home(as you suggest) or use it to retrain some of the the out of work. When its all said and done ten years from now they will still hate us.

It's just very sad when people feel that is the only option left, and to top it all off, a new payroll tax just hit us hard. This country should be pulling together to protect it's citizens in this time of crisis. There should have been a contingency placed on the banks that were being bailed out to make sure they in turn helped us all to stay in our homes, or at least try really hard.
Amy Miller Jackson January 15, 2013 at 03:46 pm
Do you know whats really sad? A man took his own life in front of the courthouse and the whole world and you are complaining about the government and the banks. For the love of God.
Rick Rodriguez January 15, 2013 at 03:49 pm
2 billion per week in afghanistan? For what? Lets take care of our house before we start meddling on others.
Basha January 15, 2013 at 05:02 pm
Amy, obviously this man did it in the courthouse parking lot for a reason. I'd say it has everything to do with our government and how it has caused a great amount of depression. We will never find out why he did this, because the government will keep it a secret. They aren't responsible for anything.
Basha January 15, 2013 at 05:11 pm
No offense to Amy! This is a very sad incident. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Lundburg's family and friends.

Basha
Its not obvious why he did it and yes we may never know. You could get the impression that nobody gives a hoot a man committed suicide in public. Instead of talking about the tragic incident in the above article we get a lesson on how much it costs to live in Kendall County and how the government screws us. So many people on this site seem to know so much, be so smart and have the answer to everything, your all a bunch of armchair quarterbacks.
Brian Jones January 16, 2013 at 12:30 am
You people make me sick. I bought a $420000 house in 2005 and yes, the economy has taken a toll on the value of my house as well as my income. I have never felt the need to stick a gun in my mouth. I do what I have to do to make ends meet. The banks didn't force me to make the decision I made. TAKE RESPONSIBILTY FOR YOURSELF......
Chitown Heffer January 16, 2013 at 02:01 am
Who really gives a rats ass about who is in debt and who is not!!! Everyone goes thru tough times... But the really sad part is, that Mr. Lundburg felt that he was all alone and had nowhere else to turn. My heart goes out to all the people who loved him that he left behind. I see thing like Mr. Jones above me... I.. would do whatever it took to keep a roof over my children heads and food in their bellies. If that meant working @ McDonald's, or selling my fat ass on the corner, HOME is where you make in. It doesn't have to be on the plus side of a credit report, or in a $420,000 home either. Home is where the Heart is.... every heard that saying before??People need to get back to the basics, more then ever in this day in age. Again, My heart and prayers go out to The Lundburgs' in their time of need and sorrow.

Actually Brian Jones, you make me sick. Your comment is so hurtful. Obviously you don't know anything about depression or other related illnesses. Try reading his obit. Then you'll have a little insight into the situation. How dare you condem someone without fully knowing the truth.
jim January 16, 2013 at 03:39 am
i have lived just that situation and i built my own home.lost my job due to an injury....boy did my lawyer get fat......but i will not kill myself over that.time to regroup and reinvent.one day at a time.
CoWorker January 16, 2013 at 05:18 am
i worked with him, not sure why he did it, i know he was going through a nasty divorce, even quit work over the divorce about 2 or 3 months back. he was a nice guy, definatly wasnt expected to hear about this in a work meeting. RIP

Brian, Come on bro don't you get it we are taking responsibility. WE VOTE? And trust that those we vote for will do what they say for us as taxpayers! But instead the get in office and forget 90% of the promises they made before they got elected. We have to have accountability.
Also Brian you said you paid $420K for your home in 05 Right? Let me inform you on a little something in 2005 (this is when the banks new things were going south e.g. Going Bad) So in 2005 homes where selling for $245k - $330 in our area here in Kendall, you said you paid $420000K that means your mortgage is like what? $3,200-$3,500 before taxes? So that means the same bank you are defending over charged you by $90K- $175K and then to top it off your house is worth 30%- 60% less then what it was worth in 05 bases of where you at. But the beloved bank still wants you to pay the note based off the $420K. Sounds Crazy right? And you are 100% right Brian the bank did not force you to do this, instead they used tricky to do this with a little thing they call "Debt to income ratio"! At least if they had forced you, you would have known it was happening. Instead they used the deadliest weapon of all the “PEN” and instead of the phrase “Stick em up” They said “Sign here please” with a smile. You trust that the bank was there and would not dare let you over pay for something Right? Well the bank has to been accountability also. Not just keep getting bailed out. Thank you for listening.

Here is another sad example of the banks not caring AIG's ex CEO is currently trying to sues taxpayers / the government because he did not like the way the government handled the bailing out of his company. Nice right?
Ame Bible January 17, 2013 at 09:01 pm
Yes, very sad situations all around. As for AIG? that really was a kick in the fanfluken! But because the AP's outrage, they backed off. They would say that it was their advisors that steered them away, no! it was fear from the AP! No more bailing out these corporations! Bail out the individual !!

i agree with brian jones, take responsability. in 2000 i was offered a 400000 loan for a new house. I knew i could not afford that much so i did not take it. I borrowed half of that instead. everything is in writing for you at the contract table mr. no filter. there is nothing tricky about debt to income ratio. the banks did make it easy back then to get in deep debt but in the end it was your decision to take on the loan payments and no the banks. Responsability, learn it and live it.
sasquatch January 19, 2013 at 08:59 am
i know i cant spell responsibility but im just a sasquatch so whats you excuse brian? lol
Tired of the theorizing January 22, 2013 at 05:03 am
I know this man. What happened outside the courthouse was an awful tragedy. It had nothing to do with the government or politics or whatever twist any of you want to put on it. If the reasons are not being published, then it's very simple. It's none of your business. Families DO have the right to privacy and a time to grieve without making it a spectacle. Have some respect for his friends and family and take your theories and politics to an article or page where it is appropriate.
Please Don't January 23, 2013 at 06:13 am
This is my boyfriend's grandfather, and I barely have a right to extrapolate on it. Please don't turn this into something it's not. God knows that Grandpa Lundberg deserves to rest in peace without people making up their own reasons.
