Police: Yorkville Man Charged With DUI After Hitting Squad Car, Tree

A 25-year-old Yorkville man who allegedly drove drunk while speeding 72 mph and rear-ending a Yorkville police car posted bail Friday, authorities said.

Jose de Jesus Jimenez, of the 2000 block of Village View Drive, was charged with aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude police, driving under the influence, and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection to an incident about 10:40 p.m. Sunday, according to .

An off-duty corrections officer reported Jimenez’s car driving east in the westbound lane of Route 34, Yorkville Deputy Police Chief Larry Hilt said. A Yorkville police officer got out of his squad car to approach Jimenez, but Jimenez drove off, Hilt said. An officer measured him driving south at 70 mph in a 45-mph zone on Route 47 before he went into the Fox Island subdivision, Hilt said. Inside the subdivision, he drove about 60 mph down Hazeltine Way, made a wide left turn onto Kingsmill Street and struck a tree in a front yard there, Hilt said.

Near Village View Drive and St. Joseph’s Way, Jimenez rear-ended a police car with an officer inside, Hilt said. No one was injured, and police were able to approach Jimenez’s car.

“He refused to get out of the car, so they assisted him from the vehicle and arrested him,” Hilt said. “His eyes were red and bloodshot; they could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his face.”

Jimenez was taken to Kendall County jail, where he posted 10 percent of his $10,000 bail on Friday.
