Police: Teen Burglarized Home in Search of Booze

Three teens face charges after one went into a Yorkville home last month while others stood watch, police said.

A Yorkville woman walked into her kitchen about 1:50 a.m. to find an unfamiliar teenager rooting around in her refrigerator, Yorkville Deputy Police Chief Don Schwartzkopf said.

The teen and two others had gone in search of beer or other alcohol, and one boy went inside the house in the 600 block of Birch Drive while the others stayed outside as lookouts, Schwartzkopf said.

The boy who entered the house was charged with felony residential burglary, felony burglary and misdemeanor battery, according to a news release. The two other boys were charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass to property.

After he was discovered inside the house, the boy ran into a closet, and the woman tried to keep the closet door closed as her husband came to assist her, the news release states. The boy pushed open the door, causing the woman to fall and suffer some bruising, Schwartzkopf said.

The boy who went inside the house, who Schwartzkopf said was under the influence of alcohol, had “a physical altercation” with the husband outside the home as he fled, police said.

The three teens left the scene but were found later.

The teen entered the home through an exterior garage door and a door that led from the garage to the home, police said. Both doors were unlocked.
