Police Charge Naperville Mom With Murder in Stabbing Deaths of Children

A Naperville woman faces first-degree murder charges after the deaths of a 5-year-old girl and her 7-year-old son she had been babysitting, officials said.

A Naperville woman is being charged with stabbing to death her 7-year-old son and a 5-year-old girl she was babysitting Tuesday night, Naperville police said.

First-degree murder charges were filed against Elzbieta Plackowska, 40, of Naperville by officials around 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to Naperville police. 

Plackowska is scheduled to appear in bond court at the DuPage County courthouse in Wheaton at 8 a.m. this morning, according to officials.

The two children were found stabbed to death Tuesday night during a wellbeing check at a townhouse on the 800 block of Quin Court in Naperville, police said. One child was a 5-year-old girl Plackowska was babysitting and the other was her 7-year-old son.

Two dogs were also found stabbed to death in the home, according to reports. 

Naperville police do not believe any other suspects are at large, according to the media release. 

The younger child was a kindergarten student at Brookdale Elementary School in Indian Prairie District 204, while Plackowska’s child attended Scott Elementary School in Naperville District 203.

"(The district's crisis team) will remain in place for as long as necessary as students work through their feelings and grief," Brookdale Principal Mary Howicz said in a statement Wednesday morning. "... If you feel your child is having any difficulty with this news, please don't hesitate to contact us so that we can be aware of your child's needs. Please keep the Brookdale family in your thoughts during this very difficult time."

District 204 also deployed its crisis team and had counselors on hand at the school throughout the day Wednesday.

"I thank everyone for their support and understanding as we try to guide our students, staff and families through their confusion and grief," District 203 Superintendent Dan Bridges said in a letter Wednesday afternoon. "Your thoughts and prayers for all those suffering are gratefully accepted."
