Updated: Man Involved in Fatal Car Accident Listed in Stable Condition
Three-car crash outside Plano killed 59-year-old Stephen Cockriel and injured a 21-year-old Yorkville man Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office said.

A 21-year-old Yorkville man was listed in stable condition Wednesday afternoon as police continue to investigate an accident that killed a 59-year-old Plano man Tuesday.
Preliminary reports show Bryan C. James was driving a 1999 Dodge Dakota truck south on Fox River Drive about 4:35 p.m. Tuesday, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. His truck crossed the center line about 0.2 miles north of River Road and struck a northbound 1993 Saturn SW1 driven by Stephen Cockriel, 59, of the 17100 block of Miller Road in Plano, according to police.

The two vehicles collided head-on, pushing Cockriel’s car off the roadway and into a guard rail east of the road, the news release stated.
A 2002 Chevrolet Impala that had been traveling behind Cockriel’s car collided with those two vehicles, the news release stated.

Cockriel was pronounced dead by the Kendall County Coroner’s Office at the scene about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Little Rock-Fox Fire Protection District personnel took James to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where sheriff’s police said he was listed in stable condition.
Two passengers in the Impala—a 26-year-old woman and a 1-year-old girl, both from Yorkville—were checked at the scene but declined to be transported to a medical facility, the news release stated.
Sheriff’s and state police are continuing to investigate the accident, which happened outside Plano near Silver Springs State Park. The state police are reconstructing the accident.
