Police: Fox Highlands Death Likely Suicide

The official cause of death won't be determined until the coroner's autopsy and inquest are finished, Yorkville Police Chief Rich Hart said.

Yorkville police are investigating a possible suicide after responding to a small garage fire Tuesday in the 2100 block Muirfield Court in Fox Highlands.

A neighbor saw smoke and heard fire alarms at about 1:10 p.m. Tuesday in the townhomes in the neighborhood off Route 71 east of Route 47. The unit’s fire sprinklers had activated, so the fire was contained to the garage and did not cause any structural damage, Yorkville Police Chief Rich Hart said.

“At this point, there’s no signs of foul play,” Hart said.

Authorities found a deceased 54-year-old woman in the garage, Yorkville Deputy Police Chief Larry Hilt said. No one else was home at the time, Hart said.

After interviewing family members and conducting a crime scene investigation with the state police, Yorkville police are handling the case as a suicide, Hart said. An official cause and manner of death likely won’t be determined until after an autopsy and coroner’s inquest, Hart said.
