Disciplinary Hearing Scheduled for Delaney
Yorkville's police commissioners will consider a disciplinary case against a former deputy chief accused of stealing prescription medication.
Yorkville police commissioners have scheduled a disciplinary hearing for former Deputy Chief Police David Delaney, from a program he oversaw.
The disciplinary hearing will begin at 5 p.m. Oct. 21 at , Chief Richard Hart said. The Board of Fire and Police Commission has the authority to punish police officers with suspensions longer than 5 days and termination.
Delaney, who has been on voluntary unpaid administrative leave since June 20, also has been suspended.

Delaney is accused of stealing hydrocodone on May 27 from a program meant to safely dispose of residents’ unwanted and unused prescription medication, authorities said. The Illinois State Police had been investigating Delaney for about a week, and no other police officers were implicated, authorities said.
Delaney was charged with charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and theft of government property, both Class 4 felonies typically punishable with probation or up to 3 years in prison.

Delaney’s criminal case is next due in Kendall County Court on Oct. 20.
Delaney’s annual salary was $86,112. He has worked for the Yorkville Police Department since 1999, was promoted to deputy chief in July 2010 and was stripped of that title shortly after his arrest.
