Brown was found dead Monday inside her home on the 400 block of Jefferson Street in Big Rock. The Kane County Coroner's autopsy determined Brown died of attack wounds from a mastiff, one of three dogs that she and her husband owned.

Brown was a full-time firefighter/paramedic for the Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District, as well as a part-time paramedic for the Big Rock Fire Protection District.

Brown was a caretaker and enjoyed baking cookies and cooking dinner for her coworkers, said Big Rock Fire Lt. David Denison.

"She’d go out of her way to help people," Denison said on Wednesday. "She made it her career. She’s going to be missed."

That's really surprising that a Bull Mastiff would do this. They really are a gentle, loving giant. My thoughts are with Dawn's family.

I agree Jessica. But sometimes they are only reacting on instinct and not really being aggressive. This is a tragedy and my family is sending out thoughts and prayers to Firefighter/paramedic Dawn Brown family and friends.
