Bristol-Kendall Firefighter Accused of Stealing Money from Association

Jeffrey Noss, 32, of Yorkville, suspended after allegedly taking $20,000.

A part-time firefighter accused of stealing $20,000 from the Bristol-Kendall Firefighters Association has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of his felony case, officials said.

Jeffrey D. Noss, of the 2300 block of Sumac Drive in Yorkville, was charged with three counts of theft and two counts of forgery for allegedly taking money from three accounts for the firefighters fraternal organization, court records show.  He served as the association’s treasurer, Yorkville Police said in a news release.

Noss is accused of taking the money between Feb. 28, 2009, and March 18, 2011, court records show. One forgery count alleges he signed a $1,300 check made to cash on Aug. 17, while the other forgery count alleges he signed a $1,000 check made to cash on June 21.

Yorkville Police said he took a total of $20,000.

The association’s accounts are separate from the fire department’s operational funds and do not include taxpayer funds, Fire Chief Michael Hitzemann said. Bank officials called Hitzemann on March 10 to inform him that the association’s main account was overdrawn.

Further inquiry revealed that the association’s Fourth of July and memorial funds also had been depleted, according to a news release from the fire protection district.

Authorities will “make every effort” to recover the missing funds, and any unrecovered money would be covered by an insurance policy that the fire protection district maintains for theft cases, according to a news release from the fire protection district.

In the meantime, firefighters are working to ensure events, such as the association’s Fourth of July activities, are not affected.

“We’re working hard to take care of that,” Hitzemann said.

Noss is next due in Kendall County Court April 19, court records show. He was released from jail March 19 after posting 10 percent of his $100,000 bail.
