Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District Reduces Fire Risk

Good news for any homeowners or businesses that are served by the Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District.

The district recently dropped from a Class 5 rating to a Class 3 rating by the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO), which is an independent company that determines fire risk, which is ultimately reflected in insurance premiums paid to insurance companies for insurance on homes and businesses.

ISO gives a ranking of 1 through 10, with 1 being the best and 10 being no protection at all.

An onsite visit by ISO collected data from multiple aspects of the structure fire suppression capabilities of the Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District, including the capabilities of the regional dispatch center KenCom, water supply from the Villages of Yorkville and Montgomery and the capabilities of Fire Department.

The previous rating the district had achieved in areas that contained fire hydrants was a Class 5. The new number assigned to the District is a Class 3.

In Illinois there are only 144 departments that share a Class 3 rating, with only 63 departments having a lower fire risk rating than 3 and 2,201 departments having a higher risk rating.

In the areas of the fire district that contain no fire hydrants, the number also improved from a class 9 to a class 8b, reflecting the improvements in the fire risk rating with the exception of water supply.

Fire chief Michael Hitzeman encourages individual homeowners as well as business community contact their insurance carriers to see if they qualify for a reduction in insurance rates due to the lowering of the risk.
