Letter: Retired Police Sergeant Backs Baird

Oswego has been very fortunate to have had a police chief that understands the needs of the community. As a 28-year veteran of the Yorkville Police Department, I am happy to say that I have had the honor of working closely with Police Chief Dwight Baird from the day he started his career as a sheriff's deputy. Dwight's hands-on approach to tackling crime and professionalism with the community has been truly inspiring to watch!

The Kendall County Sheriff's Department has been dealing with several concerning issues over the past several years and I believe Dwight Baird's leadership and vision is exactly what this county needs today. He has proven himself to Oswego by earning its department National Accreditation and most recently being chosen as the 2014 Police Chief of the Year from the Illinois State Crime Commission.

As a retired police officer, who also vowed to protect and serve, I understand the qualifications needed for this position and that is why I am asking you to please join me in voting for Dwight Baird for Kendall County Sheriff on March 18.

Sgt. Barry Groesch (retired)
Yorkville Police Department
