Letter: Community Outreach Makes Baird the Best Candidate

I first met Chief Dwight Baird at a community meeting in 2003. He was explaining the operations of the Oswego Police department and answered our questions. He was forthright and took the time to make sure our questions were answered. Because of this I attended Oswego Police Academy classes and became an alumni volunteer.

Over the last 10 years I have had many opportunities to see the great job he has done. The police department has a program to involve high school students in a cadet program.

Chief Baird meets with people at the senior center to alert them to the latest scams and other ways they can protect themselves from being  taken advantage of by con artists. He meets with neighbors in their subdivisions to explain how to protect their homes and cars against burglars. The Oswego Police Department hosted a public forum in April 2013 to educate parents and community members about the prevalence of heroin being used by young people and signs of addiction.

Recently he was named Police Chief of the Year in Illinois by the Illinois State Crime Commission for his service, proactive crime prevention, community outreach and involvement in professional and civic organizations.

For these reasons I 'm going to vote for Dwight Baird for Sheriff of Kendall County and I ask everyone else to do the same.
