Obituary: Wilma Loree Laird

Wilma Loree Laird, 88, Dec. 3, 1924 - Feb. 21, 2013.

Wilma Loree “Billie” Laird, age 88 of Palm Harbor, FL, formerly of Waterman, IL passed away on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013. She was born on Dec. 3, 1924 in Shenandoah, IA the daughter of Ernest V. “Casey” and Cora (Davis) Jones.

Billie was united in marriage on May 18, 1942 in Rock Port, Mo. to Mr. Nyal B. Laird and they spent the next 65 happy years together until his passing on Nov. 28, 2007. Mrs. Laird was a member of the United Methodist Church of Waterman. Billie was formerly employed at the First National Bank of DeKalb and later retired in 1975 from the Waterman State Bank. She was also a former member of the DeKalb Ag Bowling League. Billie enjoyed many hobbies including crocheting, dancing and spending time in her garden. She volunteered with both the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts when her children were younger. Billie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Burton (Bonnie) Laird of Sycamore, Ernest (Karon) Laird of Palm Harbor, Fla. and Sandra (Kevin) Doggett of Moscow Mills, Mo.; her nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; her brother, Donald (Ann) Jones of Calif.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Nyal Laird; her son, Dale Eugene Laird; her two grandsons, Ronald Ernest Laird and Mark Allen Laird; one great-grandson, Nyal Andrew Laird; brothers, Hubert (Darlene) Jones, Earl (Pauline) Jones; sisters, Hazel (Donald) Reidenaur, Velma (Paul) Stephens, Lois (Donald) Moore and Ardeth (Edward) Shelton.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Nash-Nelson Funeral Home, 1001 E. Garfield Street in Waterman, with Pastor Christina Vosteen, officiating. Interment will follow in Johnson Grove Cemetery in Waterman.

Friends may visit from 9 a.m. until the Hour of Service on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Funeral Home in Waterman, IL.
