Obituary: Richard G. Menth Sr.

Richard G. Menth Sr., Feb. 26, 1927 - Dec. 20, 2012.

Richard G. Menth Sr., age 85 of Somonauk, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 at Rush-Copley Medical Center, Aurora. He was born Feb. 26, 1927 in Chicago, the son of Joseph and Mary (Ebelt) Menth.

Richard was united in marriage on Jan. 17, 1953 in Chicago to the former Collette Anders and they spent the next 55 happy years together until her passing Jan. 13, 2008. Richard served his country proudly as a member of the United States Navy from 1945 until 1947. Mr. Menth was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk. He was employed for many years as a Fire Protection Engineer for the Insurance Industry. Mr. Menth was a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, a longtime member of the S.O.K.O.L. in Chicago, the Elmhurst American Legion and was a former member of the Moose Lodge. Richard was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and great and great-great-uncle.

Richard is survived by his son, Richard (Lynn) Menth Jr, of Somonauk; as well as many nieces, nephews and great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Collette Menth; his siblings, Edward Menth, Frances Parker, Marie Bruckhauser, Benard Menth, and an infant brother, Raymond Menth.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 320 South Depot Street, Somonauk, with Reverend Thomas E. Brantman, officiating. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Somonauk.

Friends may visit from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1275 South Countyline Road, Sandwich.
