Obituary: James Edward Hopkins

James Edward Hopkins, age 65 of Yorkville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. He was born on Sept. 4, 1947 in Altoona, Pa. the son of Donald Eugene and Thelma Elizabeth (Duff) Hopkins.

James was united in marriage on May 4, 1968 in Tyrone, Pa. to the former Carolyn Louise Baney and they spent the next 44 happy years together. Jim enjoyed woodcarving with his friends at the Beecher Center in Yorkville and working in his own workshop at home. He also enjoyed several hobbies including photography, birdwatching and traveling to as many National Parks as possible. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Jim is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hopkins of Yorkville; his daughters, Jennifer Lynn (Wayne) Dial of Yorkville, Nicole Marie Hopkins of Lake in the Hills, Catherine Ann (John) Mauricio of Yorkville, and Karen Elizabeth (Eric) Riley of Dunlap, Iowa; his grandchildren, Jade Alexandria Podchweit, Courtney Noelle Dial, Damon James Hopkins, Jasmine Kathleen Riley, Brenden John Mauricio, Hailey Marie Mauricio, Rhiannon Leigh Collins, Ashton Shawn Collins, Cheyenne Desiree Mauricio, Zachary Ian Podchweit and Cierra Lynn Riley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Thelma Hopkins.

A Funeral Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 410 East Countryside Parkway in Yorkville. Interment will be private.

Friends may visit from 4 p.m. until the Hour of Service on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home in Yorkville.
