Obituary: Helen E. Clayton

Helen E. Clayton, 94, died Feb,. 15, 2013.

Helen E. Clayton, age 94, of Mendota, IL formerly of Yorkville, IL passed away on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at Heritage Health in Mendota. She was born in Warsaw, the daughter of Ernest H. and Clara E. (Matson) Myers.

Helen was united in marriage on Oct. 18, 1947 to Russell Clayton and they spent the next 33 happy years together until his passing on Sept. 7, 1980. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Mrs. Clayton was a member of Trinity Church United Methodist in Yorkville since 1961. Helen was a school teacher who taught in both the Oswego and Yorkville School districts for 24 years and substituted for another 24 years. She was a Charter Member and the first President of the Kendall County Retired Teachers Association.  Helen enjoyed sports and watching the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls. 

She is survived by her children, Michael (Jean) Clayton of Plano, James Clayton of Sandwich, Carole Wampler of Sandwich, IL, and Gary (Valerie) Clayton of Kennesaw, Ga.; her grandchildren, Rodney (fiancee, Cassie Hart) Clayton, Kelly Clayton, Adam (Carla) Clayton, Sarah (Brandon) Stewart, Elizabeth (Kevin) Liaromatis, Ryan (Justin Palmer) Clayton, Brett Clayton, Jeffrey Wampler and Douglas Wampler; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Lucile Eisenman of Greeley, Colo.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell Clayton; her sister, Marguerite Conrad; her son-in-law, Donald Wampler and daughter-in-law, Doris Clayton.

Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 at the Trinity Church United Methodist, 2505 Boomer Lane, Yorkville, IL with Pastor John Bell officiating. Interment will follow in the Plattville Cemetery in Plattville.

Memorials may be directed to the Trinity Church United Methodist or to the Illinois Valley Hospice, 1305 Sixth Street, Peru, IL, 61354 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Visitation was Feb. 17, 2013 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 410 E. Countryside Pkwy., Yorkville. It will also be from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 at the church in Yorkville.
