Obituary: Gerald G. Haff

Gerald G. Haff, 83, of Plano, died Wednesday.

Larson-Nelson Funeral Home provided the following obituary:

Gerald G. Haff, age 83, of Plano, IL passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL. He was born on August 18, 1929 in Ottawa, IL the son of George A. and Parthenia (McDowell) Haff.

Gerald was united in marriage on August 26, 1950 in Marseilles, IL to the former Nona Mann and they spent the next 53 happy years of their lives together until her passing on March 27, 2004. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be deeply misses by his family and many friends.

Mr. Haff was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sandwich, IL. Gerald was employed, for several years, by National Biscuit Co. in Marseilles, IL. He also farmed in the area until 1970. Mr. Haff was then employed for 10 years by Caterpillar, Inc. in Aurora, IL. Gerald was the owner-manager of Haff Electric Co. for 27 years. From 1983 until 2007 he worked for Plum Landing Resident Home in Aurora, IL. Gerald was for 2 years enlisted in the Heavy Mortar Co. with the National Guard based in Ottawa, IL. He was a member of the Registered Jersey Parish and was also a 4-H leader. Gerald enjoyed collecting cast iron banks and toys, making model farms, and doing word searches on his computer. He also enjoyed collecting Minneapolis Moline Tractors and was a member of several local antique tractor clubs. Mr. Haff was a proud member of the UAW Retired Chapter.

He is survived by his children, Gerald T. (Deidre) Haff of Kinsman, IL, Lori Haff-DeLancy of Bristol, IL, Richard A. Haff of Plano, IL, Ruth ( Scott Wright) Kassinger of Plano, IL Susan Hageman of McGregor, IA, Penny (Ted) Tvrdik of Newark, IL, Pat Marie (Thomas) Bonin of Concan, TX, Stanley (Jennifer) Haff of Newark, IL, and Roger (Lanetta Cameron) Haff of Sandwich, IL; his 39 grandchildren and his 47 great-grandchildren with 2 more soon to be; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nona Haff; his brothers, James Clarence and Harold Haff; his sisters, Nellie Maltas, Florence Sullivan, Selma Johnson, and Genevieve Lane.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 West South Street in Plano, IL with Pastor David Kaul, officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Rock Township Cemetery in Plano, IL.

Friends may visit from 1:00 until 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home in Plano, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gerald Haff’s name may be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church Building Fund in Sandwich, IL.
