Obituary: Gary D. Collie

Gary D. Collie, 72, March 1, 1940 - Feb. 26, 2013.

Gary D. Collie, age 72, of Big Rock, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013 at his home.  He was born on March 1, 1940 in Metropolis, IL the son of William S. and Martha (James) Collie, Sr. 

Mr. Collie served his country proudly as a former member of the United States Marine Corp. Gary was employed by Borg Mechanical until his retirement. He was a member of the Pipefitters Local #597. Gary was a car buff and a member of the Silver Springs Chapter of the A.A.C.A. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Big Rock Café. Gary was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Brian (Geri) Collie of Metropolis, Mary Collie of Big Rock, Alisa (Jeb) Stewart of Mendota, and Linda (John) Sala of Elgin; his 12 grandchildren; his brother, James (Edith) Collie of Peoria; and his former wife, the mother of his children, Sandra Simmons of Amboy; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Clyde Collie and William S. Collie Jr.; and his sisters, Blanche Winfield and Maxine Johnson.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Nash-Nelson Memorial Chapel, 141 N. Maple St., Hinckley. Interment will follow in the South Big Rock Cemetery, Big Rock.

Friends may visit from 11 a.m. until the Hour of Service on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Nash-Nelson Memorial Chapel in Hinckley.

Memorials in Gary’s name may be directed to the Big Rock Library, 48W447 Hinckley Rd, Big Rock.
