Obituary: Dorothy Louise Carter

Dorothy Louise Carter, Aug. 7, 1928 - Dec. 29, 2012.

Dorothy Louise Carter, age 84 of North Aurora, formerly of Montgomery, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at her home in Asbury Gardens Retirement Community in North Aurora. She was born on Aug. 7, 1928 in Harrisburg, IL the daughter of Norman and Allie (Cox) Wood.

Dorothy was united in marriage on Feb. 25, 1950 to Mr. James Carter in Chicago, and they spent the next 62 happy years together. Mrs. Carter was a longtime member of the Fox Valley Illinois Association of the Deaf. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, James Carter of North Aurora; her daughter, Susan (Michael) Thanepohn of Sandwich; her grandchildren, Chad A. (Julie) Thanepohn of Seneca, Michelle (David) Weidner of Peoria, and Robert H. Thanepohn of Earlville; her great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Trevor Thanepohn and Micah, Daniel and Jacob Weidner; her brother Frank Wood of Elburn; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Allie Wood; her brothers, Lyle and Sam Wood; and her sisters, Phyllis Orbits and Norma Reu.

A Memorial Service for Dorothy will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at Asbury Gardens Retirement Community Chapel, 210 Airport Road, North Aurora.  Memorials for Dorothy may be directed to the Fox Valley Older Adult Services, 1406 Suydam Road, Sandwich, IL 60548.
