Visitation for Jim Smith is on Friday, May 17 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18.

James T. Smith, age 54 of Plano, IL passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich, IL. He was born on August 4, 1958 in Sandwich, IL the son of Harley E. and Millie Ann (Rochkes) Smith.

Jim was united in marriage on September 14, 1985 in Plano, IL to Miss Staci Lucas and they spent the next 27 happy years together. Mr. Smith was a member of First Lutheran Church in Plano, IL.

Jim was employed for 24 years as a Machine Repairman at Caterpillar, Inc. in Montgomery, IL. He was a past president of the Plano Youth Athletic Association and was very involved in the girls softball program, volunteering as a coach and helper for many years. Jim was a certified IHSA umpire. He was a member of the PHS Chain Gang during the football season.

Mr. Smith was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post #395 in Plano, IL and was a very active member of the Cedardell Golf Course. Jim was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and cousin who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Jim is survived by his wife, Staci Smith of Plano, IL; his daughters, Stephanie Smith of Lake Bluff, IL and Rachel and Clare Smith of Plano, IL; his sisters, Terrie Smith of Woodridge, IL and Nancy (Alan) Sanders of Sandwich, IL; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and great nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Millie Smith; and his brother, Todd Smith.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the First Lutheran Church, 200 North Center Street in Plano, IL with Pastor Bruce Booher, officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Rock Township Cemetery in Plano, IL.

Memorials in Jim’s name may be directed to the First Lutheran Church, Plano, IL.

Friends may visit from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 West South Street in Plano, IL.
