Former Yorkville High School Teacher Remembered by Students, Neighbors

Memorial held for Robert Dale Williams Jan. 12.

A former Yorkville High School teacher who died Jan. 8 has been remembered fondly by former students and neighbors.

Robert Dale Williams was remembered as a great teacher, movie theater manager and all round good guy by those who knew him. Over the past week friends provided memories of Williams on various Facebook pages. 

Jeremy M. remembered Williams from his days as a teacher at Yorkville High School.

"... We still use the knowledge he passed on. He will be missed, a great man!"

Amy C. worked for Williams at the movie theater.

"He was my boss when i worked at the movie theater. A great man, he will be missed!"

Ed S. called Williams the best teacher he ever had.

In comments left on Williams' obituary Sheila Thompson described Williams as "a wise mentor, a fun friend, a powerful teacher, and a quality man."

"...you and that mischievious twinkle in your eye will be greatly missed, my dear one!"

Bill Barkleysad news of Williams' passing saddened him.

"I considered him a very great person. He always had good things to say about everyone. I can't think of anyone that knew him that would not say the same. My sincere sympathies to Wanda and the family. May you hit them long and straight in the BIG golf course up above," he said.

Robyn Sutcliff said she remembered Williams from his time at the theater, when he employed many of Yorkville's youth.

"It seems strange that he passed away the same day they broke ground on the property of his former movie theater. My condolences to him and his family."

A memorial service was held Saturday, with a private funeral following.
