Allen George Thomas, 84, was a member of the Shabbona Masonic Lodge and Sandwich Moose Lodge

Visitation for Allen Thomas will be held at 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 6.

Allen George Thomas, age 84, of Plano, IL formerly of Big Rock, IL passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Valley West Community Hospital, Sandwich. He was born March 3, 1929, Aurora, the son of Sylvenus Boyce and Eliza (Lawrence) Thomas.

Allen was united in marriage July 2, 1966 to Elizabeth “Betty” Allen and they spent many happy years together. He was a member of the English Congregational United Church of Christ, Big Rock, IL. After several years of farming, he was employed as a Truck Driver by Roadway, West Chicago. After retiring, Allen mowed grass for the Plano School District.  

Allen enjoyed having coffee every morning with his friends. He was an avid fan of the Big Rock Plowing Match. He was a member of both the Shabbona Masonic Lodge #374 and the Sandwich Moose Lodge #1016. Allen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Allen is survived by his wife, Betty Thomas, Plano, IL; his children, Craig (Melodie) Thomas, Leland, IL, Joel (Debbie) Thomas, Yorkville, IL, Jeff (Peggy) Thomas, Hinckley, IL, Peggy (Bob) Withrow, Plano, IL, Darlene (Dave) Wicks, Sandwich, IL, Ed Shelton, Hot Springs, AR and Loretta(Mickey Jr., deceased) Parson, Dixon, IL; twenty-six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant son; and his brother, Clinton (Naurine) Thomas.

A Masonic Service will be held at 5:00 PM, Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 West South Street, Plano, IL.

Friends may visit from 1:00 PM until the Hour of Service, Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Funeral Home in Plano.

Memorials may be directed to his wife Betty.
