Kendall County Property Tax Revolt – Our Next Steps

We had a very successful rally in Oswego! Please print a petition & get as many signatures as possible

We had a very successful rally in Oswego! Thanks to Jan Alexander, Greg O’Neil, and Judi Burks for putting it together. Our group wants to be upfront with everyone on what we want to accomplish. We want our property taxes reduced – period! What we can do to effect that is to get our local government units to reduce where they can so next year’s levies will be lower. Our only goal is to reduce property taxes.

Here are the next steps we plan to finalize and follow through on:

  1. Submit signed petitions by August 6th to the county to have a referendum placed on the county-wide ballot which will state, “Shall every levy of every governing body within the County of Kendall, Illinois be reduced 20% over the previous year’s levy?          Yes or No.” We need help getting the 2600 signatures required to have this placed on the ballot. This can only be a non-binding referendum but just the vote totals should tell our elected officials we have had enough already. I have a copy of the petition attached to this BLOG and would appreciate everyone reading this to copy it(or several), get the signatures of Kendall County registered voters(no matter what party affiliation), go to your local bank and have it notorized showing you are who you say you are, and then email me so I can pick up the original(kendallcounty@gmail.com). Please do this simple thing and you will be helping all taxpayers and neighbors in Kendall County. Do not put page number as we will do that when we submit them. Do not use ditto marks. All names must be a signature-not printed.
  2. Our group plans to talk with every person running for office to see which ones we will support based on their answers to reducing the levies for taxpayer relief. We will then produce a list of candidates we will support in the November election.
  3. Finally and most importantly, we are working to get a schedule of every levy meeting to be held where our group can attend and demand the reductions we seek. More will follow as we get the meeting times and dates.

Stay tuned and please, please, please print a petition, get as many signatures as possible, make sure it is completely filled out properly, and email me to pick it up. This is your chance to be part of the solution in Kendall County!

@ Lynn and all, You may not have Adobe Reader software loaded. You can get it free here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/. I have sent a message to Jillian to check into this but it opens for me and others so I'm guessing you may need the PDF viewer software loaded on your computer.
