Trunk Discovered in Yorkville Building Presents Mystery

A woman is looking for the rightful owners of a trunk labeled as the personal effects of Lt. J.C. Rottler.

A woman wants to return a trunk found at the Carrvilla Kennel along Route 71 to its rightful owner.

The trunk is labeled as the personal effects of Lt. J.C. Rottler and has an address of 909 Cherry Street in Winnetka listed on the top. Debra Smilie Blomgren was cleaning the building with her husband, who had planned  to list the property for sale, when she stumbled upon the item.

"Pat Carr amassed a large collection of old trunks," Blomgren wrote in an e-mail. "She refinished some of them and sold them.  Right now we have 45 unfinished trunks to sell.  As we were going through all of them, I found the one with the Winnetka address on it."

Blomgren saved the trunk and would like to reunite the trunk with its owner and family. Do you know anyone who might be the owner? You can email us at Patch and email Blomgren at dblom22@aol.com.

If the appropriate owner cannot be found, the trunk will be donated to the Winnetka Historical Society, Blomgren said.
