Locals Observe Autism Awareness Month

Local businesses, dignitaries highlight autism awareness in April.

Mayor Gary Golinski has proclaimed April to be Autism Awareness Month in Yorkville.

The proclamation states: "Autism Spectrum Disorders are the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the United States affecting 1 in 88 children and 1 in 54 boys." The disorders have no identified cause or cure, according to the proclamation.

A few local events recognize Autism Awareness Month, too. and Autism Society of Illinois are hosting a fundraising walk at 10 a.m. April 28 at Silver Springs State Park; organizers still are accepting registration. See the flier attached to this article as a PDF for more information.
