Kendall County Food Pantry: Donation Plea

Kendall County Food Pantry needs holiday donations

The Kendall County Food Pantry has been fortunate in the past (since 1987) to be able to provide ample amounts of food for our clients due to generous donations from the community.

Unfortunately, the economy has overwhelmed our efforts to provide the amount of food to our clients that we have in the past. Our grants have been cut in half, our donations are down by 25%, and our client base is up 300%. This might be the first year we will be giving chickens instead of turkeys for Thanksgiving. There might not be a special Christmas distribution at all. We have already cut our egg distribution from one dozen a week, to one dozen every other week. The pre-packed grocery bag we give out has gone from 15 items to 8.

We are putting out a plea to the community for donations. Money ($1.00 becomes $6.00) and food is needed. Specifically the food we are short on is: canned fruit, cooking oil, soup, canned meats and cereal, but anything we receive is a blessing.

The KCFP is a 501c3, a not for profit organization, with a 97% return of money and goods to our clients. This makes your donation deductible. We can provide a receipt for your donation if needed.

Can they take Jewel gift cards to buy some of the things they need?
Todd Milliron September 29, 2012 at 11:30 pm
Shirley, it is better to just donate the amount you would spend on a Jewel Gift card directly to the Food Pantry and multiply that giving effort by a factor of 6. A $10 contibution becomes $60 of food, the gift card thing would be $10 spent and only $10 of food. Do your monetary giving effort directly to the food pantry and make it go six times as far.

Maybe if they would acknowledge donations like they say they do, those who gave regularly in the past would still be donating. KCFP is our families charity for year end giving, but when you have to request a letter for taxes numerous times, you can bet they will not be the recipient of our year end check this year! Who suffers? Unfortunately, those in need. Shame in your Maria!

Mr. Charles , Sometimes people do the best they can. Maria has put her life into serving the community. When you become a servant of people, like Maria, let us know. You should reacess why you gave and consider it again.
