Shopping Local: Smokey's Wood Pit BBQ

A 30-day challenge to shop local takes her to Smokey's Wood Pit BBQ.

I love barbecue and being from Alabama, it makes me an unofficial expert on the subject. When opened a couple years ago my husband and I were thrilled and we are frequent customers.  Tonight I decided I didn't want to cook so I surprised my husband by telling him we were going to Smokey's for dinner. As we pulled into the parking lot we could smell the wood pit BBQ. Our mouths were already watering.

My husband hemmed and hawed over what he wanted. First it was a pulled pork sandwich; then it was a half slab of ribs. He finally settled on a combo platter that had ribs, pulled pork and brisket. I went with at the beef brisket sandwich and onion rings. The food was very good and we left stuffed and happy. Plus I was super excited I didn't have to cook or clean up dinner.

During the busy holiday season many of us just don't have the time to cook or we are just to tired to cook. A gift certificate from Smokey's would be a great gift for any busy person on your holiday gift list.  Smokeys wood pit BBQ is located on Route 47 near Route 126. You can even check them out online at www.smokeyswoodpit.com

I personally suggest the ribs and onion rings!

Editor's note: Smokey's also has been featured in a few Chowdown Showdown columns: one about , one about , and one about . The photo with this blog post originally illustrated the column about gyros.
