What the Heck is a Recorder?

This is a brief description of what a Recorder is, what the office does and why it's so important to have a dedicated Recorder. See www.JerryBannister.com

The Recorder, sometimes called the Recorder of Deeds, is responsible for tracking every square inch of real estate in Kendall County...along with several other things!  The Recorder's records are the foundation for private ownership of real estate.  Every real estate transaction requires recording of documents in the records, including Deeds, Mortgages, Plats of Subdivision, and Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions.

The Recorder is also responsible for filing Military Discharges (DD-214), which are protected from public viewing by State and Federal law.

Click here to see how the current Kendall County Clerk/Recorder improperly handled DD-214's, and what I did about it.

Senior citizens can also be targeted for fraud due to lack of security with the recorded documents.

The Recorder is entrusted with the private information of thousands of Kendall County citizens.  It’s more than just assigning a document number to a deed; it’s what the Recorder does next that matters.  The policies and procedures set by the Recorder will either keep that private information safe, or put people at risk for identity theft.

In 2008, our current Kendall County Clerk/Recorder created a public website containing thousands of Social Security Numbers, along with the names, addresses and signatures of thousands of Kendall County citizens.  Anyone can access this information free of charge.  There's no security in place; you don't need a username or a password.  There are no log-ins, no tracking, NOTHING.  Any criminal or anyone who just wants to mine your personal data for any reason has free access to the information. My website goes into great detail about the whole story in Kendall County.

On March 20, 2012, the voters will decide if the Clerk should be allowed to continue to act as the Recorder.  Vote NO on the Recorder referendum!  This will split the office and put a dedicated specialist in charge of the records!

Vote NO to the Status Quo.

Thanks for taking the time to learn about this important issue.  I hope I get the chance to serve the people of Kendall County as the first separately elected Recorder.  I will do all I can to protect you.
