Join Randy the Renegade Elf and Suicide Prevention Services to Celebrate 12/12/12

Today is Random Act of Kindness Day.

Dear Kendall County residents,

Randy the Elf here. I’ve hacked into Peeka’s Page of Positivity because I just couldn’t wait until Christmas to share some holiday cheer. All year, it’s been building Thomas The Train sets, programming Nintendo DSes and printing Justin Beiber posters. The reindeer games are fun, but Bieber? Really? (If I was your boyfriend I wouldn’t make you listen to cheesy music. For reals.)

Anyway, today is a very special day before Christmas. It’s 12/12/12. It’s also Random Act of Kindness Day. SPS (Suicide Prevention Services) says it’s so. It’s very easy: You just do something nice for someone you don’t really know. It’s better if they don’t know ahead of time. It’s even better to be sneaky. Pay for the person’s order in line behind you at the drive-thru. Take a neighbor a plate of cookies. Give an elf extra-large fluffy earmuffs. (I prefer purple).

I’m doing my random act of kindness in honor of a very special lady. Lorraine is a great grandma, a caring neighbor, a faithful church member and a mom with decades of practice. She’s an excellent golfer and bowler, and has all kinds of adventures. I’m not sure she needs any more STUFF for Christmas, but I bet she’d get a kick out of knowing a few people got a special surprise in her honor. So, I’m slipping Panera gift cards into pretty envelopes and leaving them around town.

What are you doing today? Be a renegade elf. Don’t wait for Santa to load up the sleigh and haul delights and wonders around the world. The big guy doesn’t deserve all the credit. Spread a tiding of comfort and joy on your own.  You’ll be glad you did.
