On the Campaign Trail - Knock, Knock

Considerate Campaigning in 2012

Campaigning is truly one of the necessary evils of our society.  Robo calls, junk mail, yard signs, dinners interrupted by a knock on the door.  And how about the proliferation of mudslinging TV and radio commercials?  Who really enjoys any of it?  But without it, how do we choose our representatives.? Hopefully, it can be by individually deciding how to access candidates and learn about them and their stance on the issues.

As I seek the position of First District Representative on the Kendall County Board, you won’t find me calling you with a recorded message or mailing you full color postcards and flyers with pictures of me and my dog.  That’s not what I’m about.  I don’t campaign during holidays.  I try desperately to avoid the dinner hour. Those are family times and are as important to me as they are to you.

I do want you to be able to ask me about the issues that concern you so I write this blog, share my e-mail and postal address and appear at candidate forums.  I also make myself available at any number of local diners and coffee shops.  If you see me on the street, please stop me and say "Hello”.

I am also available to speak and answer questions at any function to which you wish to invite me.  I can present at luncheons like Rotary or Lions Club.  I would really appreciate the opportunity to visit with you at your home at a hosted coffee “meet the candidate” type event.  I am also willing to share my time with other candidates.  After all, this campaign is about making choices and comparing views.

As the campaign progresses, I will most likely make a few appearances at the front doors of voters that may be homebound or otherwise unable to access me.  I’ll do my very best to avoid the dinner hour and to keep my visit as short as you want it to be.  Just listen for the “Knock, Knock”.
