The signature shaving event raised more than $8,000 for childhood cancer research.

Matt Lopez has had his head shaved six times to raise money for St. Baldrick's Foundation, which funds childhood cancer research.

But on Sunday, Lopez, of Aurora, did a lot more: He hosted an event at in which more than 40 people had their heads shaved for the cause. He estimated they collected $2,000 or $3,000 above the $7,687 the event raised online.

"We're getting a great turnout," Lopez said Sunday. "I didn't know what to expect because it's my first year and a small town."
