Restaurant Hosts Wounded Warrior 5K Volunteer Event

Kids are invited to enter a T-shirt design contest, and volunteers can sign up for the May 24 event.

Organizers at Operation Welcome You Home are asking kids to help design the children's T-shirt kids will wear this year at the third annual Wounded Warrior 5K, slated for May 24 at Settlers' Park in Plainfield.

The event, which drew nearly 900 runners last year, raises money to benefit wounded servicemen and women in Illinois.

Kids ages 5 to 10 are invited to draw their idea of a military hero on the official entry form (click here to find the form). Entries can be dropped off between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at Nevin's Brewing Company, 12337 S. Route 59 in Plainfield. Organizers will choose the winning design, which will be featured on all kids T-shirts.

A volunteer sign-up day will coincide with the kids T-shirt contest entry, also taking place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 15 at Nevin's.

Volunteers are needed to assist with registration, packet pick-up and refreshments at the May 24 race. Race course assistants and volunteers to man water stations are also needed, along with volunteer photographers and videographers.
