Friends of the Yorkville Public Library are Seeking New Friends

The group is seeking members to help support library programs.

The Friends of the Yorkville Public Library are beginning their annual membership drive and look to the Yorkville community for support. The group, a non-profit organization, believes in the importance of the library to the entire community and recognizes that organized support from concerned citizens contributes to the success of the library’s programs and services.

A “Friend” is a supporter of the library who pays a small annual membership fee. A member can be active (volunteering time for projects) or supporting (dues-paying only). Friends sponsor and volunteer at fundraising events and work on special projects and programs.

In the past year, the Friends have sponsored library programs, given contributions to the children’s and adults’ summer reading program, and given money to the library for the purchase of new books – for children and adults.

Fundraising by the Friends is vital in order to support library programs. The on-going sale of used books in the library’s lobby and the annual Used Book Sale over Labor Day weekend are the primary sources of funds. Membership dues, general and business, are also a key component of fundraising.

In addition to fundraising, the Friends volunteer to wash shelves and books at the library, help with research for the library 100th anniversary celebration, and maintain the flower bed around the sign at the entrance to the library.

Current business sponsors are: Meadowvale (owner Steve Steinwart); Ground Effects (owner Mike and Rita Graves); and Gruber-Kostal D.D.S. (Joseph Gruber, D.D.S).  The Friends are grateful for their support.

Becoming a Friend is easy, and information is available through the library web site (www.yorkville.lib.il.us) or at the library. Memberships are $12 per individual; $25 for an entire family; $50 for an organization or business. Meetings are held the second Monday of the month at 10:15 a.m. at the library. Members are welcome, but not required, to attend.

Yorkville Public Library is located at 902 Game Farm Road, Yorkville.
