Chapel on the Green Polka Fest Fund Raiser

On Sunday, Sept. 22 from 1 pm to 6 pm at the Chapel on the Green in Yorkville, Illinois there will be an event called the “Chapel on the Green Polka Fest Air Conditioning Fund Raiser”.

The Chapel Board is planning to update the 1855 building’s electrical service and to eventually have air conditioning installed, which will make events and weddings more comfortable during the warm summer months.

Accordionist and Chapel member Howard Manthei will provide the music, playing a variety of polkas and waltzes.  In addition, lessons will be provided on how to dance to the music and there will also be an audience sing along.

If you can play an accordion you can bring it to the Chapel (or one can be provided) during an open microphone session.

You can even purchase a 50-50 ticket and try to guess the number of polka dots on a special event poster (the second prize is a German goody basket).

A meal of brats, sauerkraut, potato salad, applesauce, and a dessert is included in the admission price of $15 for adults and $5 for a kid’s (hot dog, applesauce, chips, and dessert).

While not required, program chair Mariann Manthei says “We are encouraging people to dress in German or Polish outfits to add to the atmosphere, or just wear something with polka dots”.
