The Best Iced Coffee!

It's hot out and you want a cold drink. Do you reach for the lemon-aid or for something a little more adult? Iced Coffee may just be the ticket.

So the warm weather has finally arrived.  Even though this weekend is looking to be a bit chilly, the hot will be here and hanging around before you know it.

Along with the hot weather comes the thirst for something cold and refreshing.  A drink that will cool us down.  Of course the first thing most of us think of is that old reliable, lemon-aid.  But one of my favorite summertime refreshments is iced coffee.  It is cool, refreshing and has a little bit of a pick-me up to help motivate me when the heat is on whether I am in the garden or roasting coffee.

You may be thinking to yourself either: yuck - I don’t drink coffee cold, or yuck - I have tried to make it before and it is nothing like what I get at my local coffee shop.  Well I say to both of you: try again, and this time I promise it will be better if not the best iced coffee you have ever had.

You will need some supplies, but nothing you can’t buy at your local grocery store.

So let’s start with your shopping list:

1)   Your favorite creamer from Coffee Mate.  You need to buy the liquid that doesn’t require refrigeration.  It will be in the coffee aisle.

2)   Coffee – Here you will need cold coffee.  The best way to make cold coffee is to cold brew it.  You can read more about cold brewing in my next blog post.  Also find the freshest roasted coffee you can.

3)   Hersey’s Chocolate Syrup if you want to make a Mocha.

4)   Plastic cup and lid or some way to shake everything once you combine them.  A 16 oz cup works great.

5)   And of course ice.

First put about 1.5 oz of the creamer in the bottom of your cup.  If you want a Mocha add your Hersey’s Syrup at this time also.  One good squeeze from the bottle will do it.  Now fill the cup with ice then add your coffee to fill the cup.  Now cover the cup and shake until well blended.  That’s it you now have a great tasting cup of iced coffee.  You can always adjust your proportions to your taste but these are a great staring point.

So there you have a perfect iced coffee for a hot summer day.  Nothing is better than sitting back sipping on a cold Iced Coffee and relaxing with your family and friends.  A perfect way to spend a day.
