Road Closings and Storm Updates Around Yorkville

Updates from around Yorkville regarding weather-related traffic conditions.

8:02 a.m., Friday

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office has released an up to date list of currently impassable roads. While every attempt is made to be as accurate as possible, residents are still urged to use extreme caution when travelling, and to stay in their homes if possible. 

  • Rt 25 from Glendale Rd to the Rt 30 overpass
  • Obrien Rd South of RT 52 to Bell Road to Arbeiter Rd
  • Van Dyke Rd from McKanna Rd to Arbeit
  • McKanna Rd North from RT 52 to Van Dyke Rd
  • Bell Rd from Hansen Rd to Hare Rd
  • Widly Rd from Hansen Rd to Hare Rd
  • Holt Rd from Hansen Rd to Hare Rd
  • Walker Rd from Ashley Rd to Church Rd 
  • Reservation Rd from Minkler Rd east bound 
  • Ashley Rd at Caton Farm Rd
  • Whitewillow Rd between Roods Rd and Townhouse Rd

The Kendall County Sheriff's office will be posting traffic updates on their facebook page around 4 a.m. tomorrow for current road closures.

The Kendall County Emergency Management Agency has received erroneous reports that the Yorkville Dam has broken, and the Algonquin flood gates have been closed. Rest assured this is not true, and we will continue to update everyone with information as it becomes available.

Walsh Street at Walsh Ct has been reopened to traffic, also East Countryside Parkway has been reopened to traffic.

Latest Yorkville road closure: East Countryside Parkway, immediately west of Route 34; Garden Street, west of Route 47.

From the Kendall County Sheriff's office:

On April 18th, 2013 at approximately 8:57 AM, Kendall County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Route 47 and Platteville Road, Yorkville, Unincorporated Kendall County, Illinois for a report of a school bus that was stuck in water on the roadway.

Kendall County deputies along with personnel form the Lisbon Seward Fire Protection District responded to the scene. Sheriff’s deputies along with fire personnel checked the area and determined that the school bus in the area was gone on arrival.

Due to flooding in the rural area of the district, the Yorkville School District will be dismissing early. High School and Middle School will dismiss at 10:30 AM. Elementary Schools will dismiss at 11:45. AM Kindergarten will go home on the elementary buses at 11:45.

Highpoint Road from Fox Road to Route 71 is closed, and Pavillion Road from Route 71 to Fox Road is closed.

Current closure in Yorkville remains in Sunflower subdivision and on Rt 34 near McHugh.

7:50 a.m.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office has numerous roads that have been reported as impassible.
Some of the roads that have been reported as impassible are:
Joliet Road 
Walker Road
Schlapp Road
Plainfield Road at Cherry Road
Grove Road south of Route 126
Chicago Road in Platteville
Sandy Bluff Road 
Minkler Road 
Budd Road
Several streets in Boulder Hill
Route 25
There are several other roads that are impassible and the list keeps growing as the weather continues.
The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office once again wants to remind residents to avoid travel on the roadways until the conditions have improved. If someone is out on the roadways we want to remind them do not attempt to drive through standing water.

Yorkville 115 School is still in session. 
There may be a few bus issues later in the day, so bus students may get to leave a little earlier. Situation will be played by ear.
