Candidate Questions

1) What can you do to foster economic development in Kendall County? What level of cooperation do you think is necessary with municipalities to accomplish this?

I held the position of chairman of the Economic Development Committee from 2008-2010. During my time with that position we began to create the Regional Job creation discussion with the surrounding economic development corporations and business leaders within the county.  A lot of work has been done in helping to build a strong foundation for a topic that is important in this election. That topic is job creation. Kendall County needs to continue to build on these relationships and work together to bring commerce to the county. Together we can build an economic plan that will create jobs and tax revenues that will benefit all our communities and residents.

2) Would you support a 0.75 percent RTA sales tax to locate a Metra stop in Kendall County?

Although I fully support the RTA stop here in Kendall county due to the economic slowdown and the constraints we have here in the County it is not fair to ask the residents to give what they do not have. We can find alternative ways to make the RTA stop here in Kendall County a reality. One such example is the current rerouting of the Prairie Parkway funds to be used to help fund this project.

3) What lessons did you draw from the dog bite incident and its aftermath? Do you think the changes the county has made at Animal Control are adequate?

As a sitting board member I am unable to respond to this question due to pending litigation.

4) Do you think the redistricting process was fair for people who live in the county’s larger municipalities?

As the chair of the redistricting committee, the process was opened up to include multiple proposals and give the residents of the County an opportunity to participate in the redistricting process. During the redistricting it was essential to create an environment that was fair and open for community involvement.   I believe that whether you live in a rural area or in a large municipality, the role of representation is to represent every resident of the county.  One of my concerns in regard to the redistricting process was to provide the committee with several diverse proposals to discuss and vote on. Through the participation of the residents the committee had that opportunity.

5) Aside from the issues discussed above, what issue or problem do you think the county board should address, and what action would you take if elected/re-elected?

Over the next few years the county will be faced with many questions. The main theme of these questions is how can we ensure that the residents to join in the economic recovery? The answer is found in infrastructure and job creation. We live in a county where a large number of the population has to travel outside the county for employment. If Kendall is to be successful in attracting commerce and industry we need to update our current county transportation corridors.  Providing ways for companies to get their goods in and out of their facilities is a necessary part of economic recovery for Kendall. Bringing business venues to Kendall will enable residents to work and live in the same community. If re-elected I will continue to advocate for balanced budgets, infrastructure improvements, and job creation here in Kendall county.
