Shopping Local: Anytime Fitness

A 30-day challenge to shop local takes her to Anytime Fitness.

After my adventures dining out this week, I figured a stop at should probably be next on my list.  Anytime Fitness is fitness available…. at literally “any” time.  With a key fob to access the door, the facility can be accessed at any time you can fit in a workout, whether day or night, 365 days a year.  The alarmed door beeps if more than one person enters at a time, and knowing I’m in a secure building has made me comfortable working out no matter what time it is.

Anytime Fitness is a franchise owned by Yorkville residents Debbie and Ron Greenleaf, and the pride they take in their business shows.  One of the first things I noticed in my initial visit was that the place is CLEAN!  Even the bathrooms (including showers) are immaculate, and the gym equipment is in good working order and obviously well maintained.  I’ve rarely seen an “out of order” sign on any of the equipment, and if a machine needs to be repaired it is done within days, not weeks.  There is a variety of free weights in addition to strength training machines and cardio equipment.

The other thing I noticed is how different the atmosphere is from other fitness centers I have belonged to in the past.  No music blaring.  No loud talking.  Sometimes a couple of people will work out together and chat, but it’s a welcome change to be able to hear my music, not my neighbor’s.  The elliptical and several other cardio machines also have a TV that you can plug in and watch.  And Anytime Fitness caters to real people.  Not everyone looks like they should be on the front cover of a fitness magazine- real people of all shapes and sizes come into work out.

The newest addition to Anytime Fitness is group classes available at the personal training studio a few doors down from the main facility.  Multi-client training sessions are available with a personal trainer, as are group classes.  And you don’t need to be a member to try the group classes, providing a way for people to experience Anytime Fitness on a limited basis.

An orientation to the different machines is available when you join, and during the hours that the gym is staffed Debbie or another trainer are available to help you learn how to safely and effectively use any machine you may not be familiar with.  If you are looking for more of an individualized approach to fitness, personal training packages are available.  Various approaches to healthy activity, with access to a clean, well-maintained facility available at any time- Anytime Fitness is located at 68 E. Schoolhouse Road in Yorkville.  And when you stop in, be sure to ask for your free seven day pass so you can try out Anytime Fitness yourself!
