The following is a release issued by the Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce:

The Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce’s Green Committee recently presented David Allen, general manager of  Rosati’s Yorkville Pizza Pub, with a certificate designating the restaurant a “Green Business.”

The designation is awarded to Yorkville Chamber members who have used sustainable and green business practices, such as recycling all paper, plastic, and metal and all grease used by the restaurant, using lighting timers and dimmers and setback thermos and low-energy light bulbs to save on energy, and using only cars that get better than 24 miles per gallon when employees travel on restaurant business.

Allen says Rosati’s applied for the Green Business Designation because they believe in doing their part to save the environment.

“I’ve been working for Rosati’s for 16 years, and I’ve always noticed the amount of waste that restaurants generate.  We wanted to do our part to reduce that waste, and we are doing it in every way we can.

We send two eight-yard dumpsters each week to recycling for the last four years and we recycle all cooking oil.

“It’s absolutely an important thing to do and every little bit helps,” Allen says.

The Chamber’s Green Committee’s mission is to educate, promote and encourage businesses within the Yorkville Chamber to enhance the community environment and to participate in sustainable ecological practices.  Membership on the committee is open to the public.  For more information, visit the Chamber website at www.yorkvillechamber.org or call 630-553-6853.
